True, and one of the most popular. I went to his lying in state at Noordeinde Palace, as well of that of Queen Juliana. Prince Bernhard's I passed.

Prince Philip was also one of the most respected members of the BRF, that was already obvious and it truly shows now.

Good!

It will be interesting to see what William makes of the Prince’s Trust when Charles becomes king.

Philip’s concern for young people has made such a difference, and his eldest followed suit. Edward will do a fine job as well in carrying on in his father and brother’s traditions.

I’m sure it will. It’s a huuuge organisation with activity around the globe. The Earl of Wessex is deeply involved since many years now. Not as a chairperson but as a Trustee, making a lot of the promotion work, Award presentation, visits in other countries etc.... It’s in safe hands

I agree with you about Lady Louise. She is a "credit" indeed.

I would imagine that Charles giving the title to his brother would be significant not just because the title was their father’s but because Edward will have an increased workload without Harry to help the new King. I don’t mean to imply that the Scottish titles the siblings use when in Scotland aren’t meaningful or important, but everyone knows “Duke of Edinburgh” - there’s a certain cachet. I know Philip had been retired for some years, but for most of his years as consort, he was incredibly busy. It just seems right and proper that as his youngest takes his title from Charles, that Edward will be stepping in to do much more of the heavy lifting.
It was always arranged for Edward to become Duke of Edinburgh in due course, as teh queen wanted one of Phil's sons to have his title.. At the time of the marriage, when this was announced, Edwrd wasn't even full time on Royal duties.

This is a beautiful photo. What a nice thing for Mia to have as she gets older and for Mike and Zara now, especially so as Zara is so close to both of her grandparents. I really do think it's lovely that Catherine has apparently become kind of the de facto family photographer. I know it's usually her own children that she shares with us in her photographs and I totally understand why but it's so nice to see the photos she takes of the other great-grandchildren, too, and it speaks to the closeness of the cousins and their families. I wonder if this was taken at Balmoral?

What a beautiful picture of Mia and Philip

And a sidenote, again a wonderful picture by Kate. She's such a good photographer.

Oooww, that's lovely...

What a wonderful thing that greatgrandpa (and greatgranny) have been able to enjoy such a long life in relatively good health and a number of greatgrandkids will have lasting memories of them

It's lovely. It definitely seems like Balmoral with the log cabin and heather behind it.

So true........

Kate is a wonderful photographer; she's able to capture warmth in relationships -- she just seems to know what's right.

If I had seen that photo without being told who it was, I never would have guessed it was Philip; he just looks like a regular grandpa

It seems - with all of the photos being released - that Catherine has become an "unofficial" photographer of the BRF It's wonderful to see she had captured memories for th extended family as well and she's clearly talented.

Mike's words were also beautiful. "A devoted family man who we will forever miss but always love"

Catherine's photography has the quality of letting us "in" a bit to see the private side of the family that professional photographers would never get access to. The pictures that are released are so much more personal this way.

Agreed.

This is a lovely photo. I like that we get to see Philip doing something with her (having/making a snack) as he was such an active person. (Much like George with the carriage, and Eugenie’s stories of their activities.)

Catherine does seem to be the family photographer. She’s very good at it.

I suspect it was at balmoral.
