On another note - since when doesnt Inaki wear his wedding ring anymore?

I always think that one of the saddest things is when people have to undertake long-haul flights following news of the death of a family member.
Yes, I'm always curious as to when and why people, especially men, remove their wedding rings.

I sit very much the pain of the family. The queen always on his site resting to the whole family. It is a moment to forget differences. Letizia should have gone.

Especially seeing as Inaki has been in Washington DC and has not seen much of his late father.

3. - CRISTINA: Medical Field. Together with her brother Iñaki, only ones who are currently residing outside the country. Cristina lives in Minnesota (USA), where she is in the medical profession, like her husband, and where she lives with her five children.
4. - MIKEL: Director of Stadium. The club of Caja Vital is well known in the circle of lovers of rhythmic gymnastics and contemporary dance. He came to office when his father presided over the savings bank. He also teaches physical education at the University of the Basque Country and is a member of the Center for Sport Business Management at IESE and the European Association for Sport Management.
5. - LAURA: Chemistry. She lives with her husband, a professional solicitor, in Vitoria.
6. - IÑAKI: Duke of Palma. He married the Infanta Cristina at Barcelona Cathedral on October 4, 1997. They have four children: Juan Valentine, 13, Pablo Nicholas Sebastian, 11, Miguel, 10, and Irene, 6.

Sad that the highlight is only on Inaki , not only for his sorrow but because of his trouble business. Should the Father died last year nothing of this should had happen
Thanks to Lindy and her informations about the other children. This family was absolutely unprepared to have as daughter and sister in law an Infanta of Spain .

I am deeply sad to hear about this death.
I´m sure Mr.Urdangarin´s health took a turn to the worse after all the events surrounding his son.
I´m glad to know that the Queen, Infanta Elena and probably even Leticia will be there for them.
What a sad time for this family, especially the children who are coming from so far away to say goodbye to a very present and dear grandfather.
May God protect them and give them strength, faith and hope.

According to various sources, Juan Maria Urdangarín was not aware of the scandal of his son. He was ill for some time, he was not mentally or physically healthy for months. Last year he did not attend Miguel´s first communion.

Apparently Inaki's father was very ill for a long time (body ok but mind gone) so he did not know about Inaki's problems and his condition has been deterioating from end of last year so family & friends knew that the end would come soon.

Well, at least that. But even when a person is very ill and not always"connected" to the world, she can perceive the energy of those around her. And this whole stuff must have grinded this family thoroughly. Especially since it has dragged and dragged and dragged.

First, the current situation with Iñaki is very tense. He has damaged the Royal Family, as institution and as family. Maybe it would add more discomfort to a sad moment.
Second, Vitoria is not Madrid. It is to a trip by road of 3 hours. Vitoria is in the Basque Country and safety is important, the car of the queen had to go escorted by several cars and a helicopter. In addition there are today in Spain demonstrations on the anniversary of 15 M, and Urdangarín has been subject to many of their criticisms.
Third, the death of the sister of the princess was a great tragedy. The unexpected death of a young woman who was leaving an orphan girl... and the princess was 7 months pregnant.
Fourth, when the grandfather and the grandmother of Princess Letizia died no member of the royal family attended the funeral (and her grandmother died in Madrid).
They spoke with the family and gave their condolence. I believe that both the Royal Family and the Urdangarín have wanted something very discreet. Given the current situation, I think everything has been good.

I disagree here, differences should be forgotten when the brother in law suffers a loss. Under normal circumstances, losing a parent is more drastic compared to a grandparent. Cristina still is Felipe's sister. Its not all about Inaki, but also about the 4 Urdangarin children too. To stay away while Queen Sofia & Elena attend is quite a statement, and not a good one. Just in my opinion, of course.

Lula, I agree with much of what you wrote. The press has reported that Prince Felipe spoke to the Urdagarins by phone. If he and Letizia had attended the funeral, it would have been an even greater media circus and security nightmare. The focus at the funeral needs to be on Juan Maria Urdangarin. I also think that Prince Felipe has no choice but to distance himself from Inaki. That said, I find Inaki's appearance very worrisome.

Yes Duke, but they were close relatives of the princess and NO ONE was there.
Here the Family has sent a representation. It is common even to funerals of close royal family members not attending the whole family, especially if the funerals are outside of Madrid.
I think the non-attendance of family members or others decide to go visit yesterday and not today to the funeral, result from various circumstances, not just the court case against Inaki.
