I was happy to see him speak about the situation, too and correct some of the misinformation the press has been spreading about Victoria, in particular, over these last few months.
Of course I wouldn’t take everything an adoring father says about his children as gospel, either, but I would expect what he says to be closer to the truth than anything written in the Spanish press. It seems even the allegedly serious media in Spain have very low standards when it comes to reporting on all the Borbón family members who don’t make up the current Royal Family.

Jaime de Marichalar, Current Events Part 1: February 2010 -

It’s interesting that he thinks his son Felipe is more like Elena’s family and his daughter reminds him of his own elegant mother. Not that Elena isn’t that elegant? !!! You can see that watching their wedding video too.

I think both children have some features from their very elegant paternal grandmother the late Countess de Ripalda.

To me Felipe is a mix of both parents while Victoria strongly resembles her father. Neither of them seem especially elegant to me but I wouldn’t expect them to be at this point in their lives.

I don't think there is anything elegant regarding Elena, fact is that with their marriage Jaime started styling or dressing her through his fashion connections and the transformation of Elena was very visible. Of course it stopped with the divorce. Jaime himself is quite stylish bordering eccentric.

Interesting. And I agree that it is true, and ironic, that it would not have been seen as proper for him to defend the king emeritus and the monarchy so strongly and politically were he still a member of the royal family.

Thanks. A really interesting read and my guess is that he expresses the thoughts of many among the Spanish nobility/upper class. Most will not be willing to say so but clearly he is willing to defend his former father-in-law and, at least in his opinion, in doing so the monarchy.

He didn't mince words, did he? A very strong and unequivocal statement of support from Don Jaime.

Good for him.

King Juan Carlos was very kind to Jaime and the royal family protected him immensely especially around the events surrounding Jaime's stroke. He is indebted to the King really

It is hardly surprising that Don Jaime, like most members of the Spanish nobility, would be a staunch monarchist.

In any case, it looks like most of JC's troubles came rather late in his reign, long after the heroic period in the 1970s and 1980s when he was busy rebuilding the kingdom as Don Jaime said.

Jaime de Marichalar confronted by journalists about his daughter's attitudes during confinement.
Victoria Federica was with him at the time but immediately got into a car so as not to be disturbed by the journalists.
