On July 2 Märtha Louise and her daughters attended the funeral of Märtha Louises's equestrian teacher and friend Esben Johannessen who had died at the age of 54.

Princess Märtha Louise, in consultation with her family, has decided that from now on she will not use the princess title in her business activities.

The princess will continue to use her title when representing the King's House and in a private context, but will use her name (Märtha Louise) when she runs a profitable business."

We have therefore jointly come to the conclusion that I use the title princess when I represent the Royal House, do my official assignments at home and abroad and in private contexts. From now on I will not use my princess title in a commercial context. That is, in all commercial contexts, I only use Märtha Louise.
I find this to be a good solution where there is a clear distinction between my business activities and my role as representative of the Royal House, and that I have thus created room for greater freedom in my business activities."

It is parading when she uses her title for her private business which has nothing to do with her position in the Royal Family.
As if it won't gain enough attention without the mention that she is a princess.

The line that is drawn is good, IMO.

Martha Louise was using her Princess title in a private business enterprise to make money-a possibly sketchy business enterprise, at that. Obviously, there were people in Norway who were uncomfortable with this situation.

Yes. She held onto it and obviously she needs it for personal and business use here and there. It's amazing how the Norwegian Royal Court has dealt with this issue. Very timely. There must be a huge backlash regarding this.

A Greve Lewenhaupt or a Furst von Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg or any titled person can do business as such, but a Princess Märtha Louise can only do business as Märtha Louise. Then we all agree that all of us will upheld a comedy and all of us will pretend she is no princess of the blood royal anymore for the business time being. This is the summum of hypocrisy. If it is so "undisirable" that members of the royal family earn their own money, provide them money indeed. It is either the one or the other.

The big difference is that nobles don't represent a country. Titled members of a royal family do, whether they want to or not.

Nobles represent themselves and/or their family, and its legacy and history.

Naturally in Norway & to some extent Scandinavia people will still know who she is, but internationally there won't be any focus on the Royal family and Norway when she can't use her title as an integral part of marketing her tour with Shaman Durek.
