Princess Anne arrives for weekend visit

Princess Anne touched down in Bermuda last night, ahead of a weekend visit crowning celebrations for the centennial Newport-Bermuda race.
The VIP guest – a sailing enthusiast and president of the Royal Yachting Association – stepped off the British Airways flight from London just after 6.20 p.m. yesterday.
The Princess Royal was greeted by Governor Sir John Vereker before being introduced to a group of dignitaries including Government Protocol Officer David Dumont, Police Commissioner George Jackson and Airport manager Jim Howes.
Minutes after leaving the plane and after exchanging brief greetings with the waiting dignitaries, she was whisked away in the Governor’s new BMW.
A Government spokeswoman said Premier Alex Scott, who was in the House of Assembly when the VIP arrived, was due to meet the Princess Royal at a private cocktail party at Government House last night.

The Princess Royal: Visit to the Antarctic - January 15-22, 2007

Anne to perk up a penguin

PRINCESS Anne is going where no Royal has ever set foot — to walk with penguins in Antarctica.
Anne will become the most southerly Royal ever as she visits a British base on the continent — where temperatures are MINUS 30°C.

What about Prince Philip's visit in January 1957?

According to my research he visited many islands a long way south but didn't actually go to Antarctica itself.

I have a book which shows the route of his 56-57 three month tour on a map and it indicates a visit to Graham Land in Antarctica. I'm at work and don't have it available right now, though, so I'll look again when I'm home.

I did find this online link:

I hope she packs a thick pair of thermol underwear. Brrrrrrr. :w00t2:

Queen Sonja of Norway visited the South Pole last year if I am not mistaken.

Princess Anne inspects Robert Scott's hut in Antarctica, during a visit to the South Pole in 2002. The emotional last letter written by Scott to his wife as he lay freezing and starving to death in the Antarctic is to go on display for the first time this month.

Princess Anne (or so says the caption )
