The Princess Royal to attend the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi

The Princess Royal will be attending the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in February. The Princess will be accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence. As President of the British Olympic Association, Anne and Sir Timothy will spend some time before the opening of the Games in the host country. Since 1983, Anne has been the President of the British Olympic Association.

Yesterday, January 14, Princess Anne was in West Yorkshire to visit Manor Coating Systems and Saltaire Micro Brewery in Shipley, to attend (as Patron) the MSc Occupational Therapy and MSc Physiotherapy End of Course Conference at the Leeds Metropolitan University and to attend the 30th anniversary of Sports Coach UK in Leeds.

May I ask why Princess Ann has the title of "Princess Royal"? Her brothers are" Prince of Wales", "Duke", "Earl" . Is it because she is the only daughter of Her Majesty?

Wikipedia has an article on the title 'The Princess Royal' here Princess Royal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In short its traditionally given to the eldest daughter of the sovereign, its the sovereign's personal gift and can only be held by one person at a time. Sons of the sovereign had many titles they could be given, Prince of Wales for the eldest, Duke of York the second eldest etc. This one was to recognise the female side of the family.

Princess Royal has been busy - and I'm not talking about the Olympics.

Whilst in Russia, she has undertaken engagements not connected to the Games. She has done 11 in Moscow and just completed another 3 in St Petersburg and there are more to come.

Obviously that book she was reading wasn't gripping enough!

Olympic engagements (mtgs and attending Games) = another 11 engagements.

She does work hard and believes in getting value for money out of this trip.

Nothing like a multi-tasking royal! Good for Anne for using whatever opportunities come along wherever she is. I'm curious to know the title of the book she was reading.

Princess Anne presented ex-International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge with an honorary knighthood at Buckingham Palace today.
Rogge, made a Belgian Count in 2002 by King Albert II, was awarded his honorary KCMG for services to the London 2012 Olympics and sport.

Just watched the BBC's countryfile show with Princess Anne on (tbh didn't know she was going to be on). I was surprised at the extent of the farming that goes on at Gatcombe. I love how Anne seems to have a rather matter of fact approach to the countryside, especially her views on GM crops and how they differ from Charles' - but as she says when you have 9billion people to feed it might be worth getting all the help you can!!

Yesterday, May 1st, Princess Anne attended an Investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace:

Princess Anne looks great at both the meeting of the Japanese Prime Minister & the investiture ceremony.
