The Nobel Walcott and Soyinka will take part in Oviedo in the " World day of the poetry "
Next March 21 it will be celebrated in Oviedo the " World day of the poetry ", activity organized together by the Foundation Prince of Asturias and the UNESCO. It will be one of the central acts of the celebration of the vigésimo fifth anniversary of the institution in this year. The writers Derek Walcott, whom a critic has defined as a " Supreme poet of the Carib ", and the Nigerian Wole Soyinka, both awardwinners with the Nobel prize of Literature, will be two of the guests to the act.
They will join them those who have received the " Prince of Asturias " of the Letters: Pablo García Baena, Ángel Gonzalez and Carlos Bousoño, as well as a numerous group of Spanish and Asturian poets. Pere Gimferrer, Antonio Gala, Antonio Colinas, Carlos Marzal, Andrés Trapiello, Xuan Bello, Berta Piñán and many other names will take part in a program of activities that will last one week. Also three poets of Senegal have been invited, in what it wants to be an honoring to the ex-president and writer Leopold Sedar Sengor (1906-2000). Parallel, there will inaugurate the exhibition " The word and the fingerprint ", that there will assemble twelve of the artists rewarded by the Foundation Prince, that they will exhibit its work in three scenes: Oviedo, Gijon and Aviles. Pablo Serrano, Eduardo Chillida and Jorge Oteiza, in sculpture; Eugenio Sempere, Antonio Tàpies, Miquel Barceló, Antonio Lopez and Roberto Matta, in painting; Sebastião Salgado, in photography, and Oscar Niemeyer, Sáenz de Oiza and Santiago Calatrava, in architecture, is the represented artists.
In the same frame there has programmed the concert of the mezzosoprano Teresa Berganza, who also will give a few magisterial classes.
One month before, probably next February 18, the Foundation Prince will inaugurate the activities of the Film Center with an honoring to the playwright and prize of the Letters Arthur Miller, deceased last year. It will consist of a cycle of cinema dedicated to the author of " Death of a traveller ", with the projection of movies of the fact that Miller collaborated. The projections will be celebrated in different Asturian localities, but the honoring will be celebrated on the 18th in Oviedo and there will attend the same one his son, Robert Miller, producer of cinema. The meeting of about a hundred of European and Latin-American rectors, in the frame of "Erasmus", will be different of the big events programmed for this year by the Foundation. The meeting will try to propitiate from Oviedo the amplification of the European scholarships of study, rewarded with the " Prince of Asturias " of International Cooperation in 2004, to the Latin-American countries. The Princes Philip and Letizia or the prime minister, Jose Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, might be present at the act. The same month the general assembly of Eurovision will be celebrated in the capital of the Principality.
Other one of the central celebrations will be in September. Champions of the Tour of France like Hinault and Indurain will take part together with the one that was the director of the test(proof), Jean-Marie Leblanc, in a cycle popular career in Asturias.
Mstislav Rostropovich's concert, which will direct the Symphonic one of Asturias (June), two debates, one on economy that there will direct Paul Krugman (April) and other one on literature, at the expense of Mario Vargas Llosa (July), they are different of the programmed activities. Likewise, two exhibitions will show themselves, that of the Olympic International Committee (COI), in June, and one of Sebastião Salgado's photographies (October). In the autumn one will present a book realized by the "New York Times" in collaboration with the Foundation, with articles published in the rotary North American on the awardwinners with " Prince of Asturias ". They will appear, between others, the first critique of " Death of a traveller ", the chronicle of the exit of the jail of the ex-president sudafricano Nelson Mandela and the critique that received the movie " Welcomly, Mr. Marshall ", of Luis García Berlanga.

All the acts projected on the occasion of 25 Anniversary are very interesting, I hope that the princes could come to someone of the acts, am sure, of that for example, they would be interested in that of the poetry very much. I will be putting the information that I find.
