Who is the Woman in Navy Blue, with President Hollande ? As I understood it, France is 'between' Premiere Dame's atm.

Ah, i've just discovered we have a new first lady here in France.
Awkward, to say the least...
At least the welcome was a truly grand affair ...

Believe it or not, it's Segolene Royal, ex Partner of the President, mother of his children and minister of the environment. She was obviously the highest minister avaiable to escort the Queen.

And, sadly as expected, the State Dinner will be business attire and cocktail dress :

Well I NEVER ! I thought it was Mme Hidalgo [Mayor of Paris], being of Spanish descent. I'm amazed he wheeled on his 'ex'....

It may look odd since she's Hollande's "ex"...but protocolary she's the highest minister avaiable so, in absence of a FL, she's the right one to accompany the Queen. It has nothing to do with her personal relationship with the President.

Indeed ! She's the number 3 in the French Government. Laurent Fabius, the Minister of Foreign affairs, the usual escort of the consort of the Head of state, is currently welcoming the Iraqi Premier at the Quai d'Orsay.

I've always have the impression Letizia and Hollande get along together:flowers:.

I agree about the welcoming: it seems very pompous:flowers:

I love her Carolina Herrera outfit for her visit to the Velazquez's exhibition. King Felipe and Queen Letizia, what a handsome and regal couple. They are truly Royals!

Note: the one on the first pic is not the real "Meninas". The true one is still in the Prado Museum in Madrid, I checked it last weekend :D

And a new video from DM: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/ne...ia-visit-presidential-palace-Paris-visit.html

And French site Pure People has a fantastic gallery with photos from this morning: http://www.purepeople.com/article/l...retour-a-paris-segolene-royal-ravie_a160643/1

I may imagine Valerie Trierweiler 's Reaction seeing Segolène Royal welcoming the King and the Queen of Spain.

Thanks for the photos!

The visit looks budget. President Hollande is an awkward person. I wonder who decided to drag Madame Royal to be the First Lady for ah hour.

This was the most dull royal State Visit at the Palais de l'Élysée ever. Even a visit at Schloss Bellevue in Berlin has more splendour than this one to M Hollande. What a shame.

Well, I read it was expected to be more on the cocktail level reception.... it is not the first time that happens...

I didn't notice a translator being used during the conversation between the President and the King. Would anyone know which language they were conversing in at that time?

The King can understand French and speaks it too, like his father.

Not even the courtesy of Black Tie, at the 'Gala' dinner' for 'honoured' guests... The standards at the Elysée have fallen yet further..perhaps they served Andouillettes for dinner ?
