Good heavens, what a hostile reception. I was watching the event at TVE Internacional and could not believe the booing and whistling and all those republican banners. And all this in Oviedo, the birthplace of Queen Letizia, the capital of the principality of Asturias!

For years, many unions and radical leftist platforms take advantage of this event to make noise. This year, citizens of Oviedo bored with that use, have created a platform in support of the Awards in four days has collected thousands of signatures... and many of those people were also there today.

It is an act of civility that people with completely opposite opinions, can live a few meters, all expressing their opinion and without problems.

Interesting, either the King & Queen understand enough French not to want a translation, or they just didn't care.
 
Hmm... you live in Spain and maybe you are used to that. Imagine that the square in front of the Stockholm City Hall is full with people and the members of the Swedish royal family are fiercely booed, whistled, yelled at and republican flags and banners are fighting to disrupt the whole event. Hm... no. Not my cup of tea. Fight for your republicanism, go into debate, have arguments, convince people, but this.... it is just hooliganism and destroying the atmosphere. Exactly like all the whistling and the booing and the disrespect towards the King and the National Anthem at the Copa del Rey... I find it shocking.

Great that Letizia finally wore a bit more Jewels then only earings. Guess the necklace is new as i can't remember having seen here with a pearl necklace before and it is not the one who can only be worn by Queens.

Like Lula said, there were also supporters, but I had to turn off the sound because it was too much. And these people are very disrespectful towards everyone who help to organize the events and look forward to it :/

But anyway like always it's a lovely event and I enjoyed the typical Asturian music.

This is why this awards are so great to watch. It's so amazing that they bring together so much culture and beauty. Those awards are a huge achievement and a great deal and any city in the world would be proud to host them. It's really hard to believe somebody can put their political beliefs above this, but meh.

Anyway, most of Oviedo and Asturias knows how important the Awards are for their city and always bring their support (BTW, many of the protesters are from other parts of Spain, you know, that kind of "professional protesters" that spend their free time looking where there is a new protest, and going there to "support". They could create a new touristic movement).
 
No one can say that Felipe and Letizia are not completely professional at the very least. Whether people are booing or cheering, they always appear completely unruffled and in control.

They have become used to it. The whistling, booing, sneering and yelling is predictable. Still it is not a very welcoming reception, of course. And remember: Letizia is from Oviedo! The city is also capital of the principality of Asturias, which the King was for decades! If even in their very own Oviedo they can not be received without all this disruption.... Yelling to a daughter of the city, to a fellow-citizen from Oviedo.... Other royals would also show a stiff upper-lip but possibly feel shocked. ("What have we done to deserve such hostility?")

Maybe they expected it but I dont think it's a big deal as a poster mentioned there were more cheering then booing. Anyways, regardless where the place, you would get people at certain events that aren't happy.

Felipe and Letizia looked great last night and this is one of the events that I enjoy them attending.

It is not predictable, and as usual you are ignoring the facts. Thousands of Asturian people were cheering, a hundred, most coming from the rest of Spain, were protesting. There is no country on earth where at least 100 people are not against the system. You never comment on the crowds of cheering people who wait for them in their usual events, and keep bringing Up apocalyptic scenarios where everybody hates them despite the polls and the people saying otherwise. Nothing Will change your mind, that much is clear, but I'm sorry if your inacurate and missleading posts confuse other people.

They were openly booed & whistled at inside and outsite the theatre at a royal opera show in Barcelona and didnt flinch so its safe to say there are used to it. They are professional and deal with it. What else can they do, people can protest if they feel the need to. Its nothing new, in previous years, especially at the height of the Inaki controversy, there were lots of events where it happened to the royals, including Sofia. Especially in Calatonia there is usually protest, even at the highest level (policians refusing handshake, whistling at Copa del Rey).

Its probably one of the reasons they keep Leonor under wraps, the adults are used to it and deal with it but its more difficult for a child.

I agree so much with you. The pearls is so amazing.I expepting from Letizia known jewelry usually wears earrings that. Big surprise when I saw the pearls. It was the Queen or someone who looks like; (I think;))

Not predictable? I dare to bet a good bottle of Margaux that the royals will be whistled, booed, yelled, shouted at, that republican flags will be waving and middle fingers shown. Let us say, same place, same time, Oviedo 2016? Let us say, the final of the Copa del Rey 2018? Let us say, the official visit of the King and Queen to Bilbao, somewhere in 2017?

It is awful. Imagine that Queen Elizabeth II enters the Royal Albert Hall and she is whistled, booed, yelled at. Imagine that a Mayor, or an Alderman or a Councillor simply demonstratively refuses to shake hands. It is almost impossible to imagine such scénes.... Be a republican but as long as Felipe is the head of state, at least have some courtesy. I already pity poor Leonor.
