Will Letizia be receiving a prize for her work or is she just attending the prize giving ceremony?
This is a visit to follow, especially since its her first solo abroad & meeting with the President.
I just hope she wears a really nice suit/outfit.

As far as I know she is invited by Eva Luise Köhler, wife of the president of Germany to attend the Eva Luise Köhler Research Award ceremony.
If I'm no wrong, this prize is organized by the German Alliance for Rare Diseases and Horst and Eva Luise Köhler's Foundation for people with rare diseases.

La Princesa de Asturias emprenderá en marzo su primer viaje oficial al extranjero en solitario
The first voyage of the Princess of Asturias abroad alone responds to the invitation of the German president's wife, Eva Köhler, and his special interest in the subject, and will have the following agenda: attend the morning at the presidential palace Bellevue where he will meet with their hosts, the German President, Horst Köhler, and his wife, Eva Louise, and where later also attend a lunch with the winners and those most responsible for Eva Louise

Letizia allein in Berlin : Prinzessins 1. Solo-Reise - n-tv.de
.. first visit abroad for Letizia without Felipe.
Its good to see her do things on her own. Great cause and Horst and Eva Louise Koehler are very nice hosts.
Is it likely that Letizia will specify on Rare Deseases in general? Just recently Queen Sofia and Infanta Elena had acts on the same topic.
Apart from that I think the Berlin act is no different than any other award presentation in Spain Letizia has attended before ("official visit" is a bit misleading?) - its about the cause and the connection to the Koehlers who know Letizia's involvement in the issue and consequently invited her (also a PR coup for them, thats for sure).

It is normal that to the visit they give an official character because the hosts are the Chief of the German State and his wife.
Duke, the only disease to which the Queen Sofia is related is with the Alzheimer, because from her foundation she has a project destined to investigate it and treat it.
If you revise the acts of the Princess you see as the organizations of the cancer, the autism and the rare diseases, appear in several occasions.
About the Infanta Elena, it is true that the past week she presided the day of the Rare Diseases, but I believe that it was something circumstantial. The Royal Household needed to give her an act because she had passed two months without going to an official act and with the advertisement of the divorce she was a news.

Thanks lula I mixed it up with an act Queen Sofia had on gyneoligic cancer last week.

That's a shame if this is true, a cause should not become subject to spin. I know the Spanish dont do patronages in the sense that one person dedicates him- or herself long term and becomes kind of an expert but it would have been appropriate to give this act to Letizia instead of Elena, with Felipe on his own at Arco.
Maybe one day Letizia will get her own foundation, at least within one of the Prince Felipe organisations (eg Prince of Girona as its currently being created?).

Probably they thought that as the Princess already had two acts and three audiences that week, it was better to send another person.
The Queen created her foundation with her money, presides and directs it herself. The Prince is linked to the Foundation Prince of Asturias and Prince of Girona as President of Honor, he works with them, forms part of the decisions but he does not control them directly.
It will be necessary to wait to see if the Princess creates her own foundation. Maybe in a few months we will have some news, it will be necessary to see like is solved the topic of the Balada heredity and of the Foundation that has to be created.

Eva Luise Koehler (wife of German Federal President) welcomes Crown Princess Letizia of Asturias in the Castle Bellevue. Crown Princess Letizia signs her name in the guestbook of the Castle Bellevue.

It's too bad that today it is one of the stormiest days since a long time! Nice to see them posing outside Bellevue anyway.
