what kind of outfit is this? Her pants are a little short!

Those are capri pants

Hey rchainho, do you mind me asking you something? I've noticed that, for the majority of your posts, you hardly have something nice to say about Letizia. Is that because you don't like her?

i would also say that they were too short... maybe a little bit longer (to enphasise the look of normal trousers) or shorter (to enphasise they are capris)

The jacket and the camisole are nice but the cropped pants and capri's look unsuitable for the occasion.

Capris or cropped pants are more casual, laid back clothing.

You're right, he/she doesn't like her. Just look at the avatar.

that's silly, and quite impolite to talk about someone who hasn't yet replied saying "yes, she does" or "no, she doesn't". let the girl reply to the question herself! if she has mary in her avatar doesn't (not necessarily) mean she doesn't like letizia. and if she does i suppose it's her opinion and no one can judge her.

thanks for the photos by the way. when does a pregnancy start to show?

You're welcome. You can already see that she isn't as petite anymore.

Letizia's pants are actually quite fashionable for the present spring/summer season:

Trouser Shapes- Spring Summer Fashion Trends 2005
Trouser shapes are changing. There is a whole range to choose from. These are the main styles of trousers to emerge for summer 2005 - shorts to cut off cropped trousers, rolled up trousers, knickerbockers, culottes and skinny drainpipes to straight cut thirties bags often with turn ups and which flop over the shoe almost obliterating the shoe upper. The rolled up trouser look will get its look from the fabric used.

After the boot cut trouser, shapes can always go two ways. They can either go much narrower and skinny jeans have already done this. Skinny jeans can be worn inside boots or used as stiletto jeans. Choose some skinny jeans such as those by James Jeans from designers Siun Kim and James Chung who make jeans designed to slim and flatter the inner thigh. In the UK you can get these from Matches from approx £130.

Or the upper leg can widen until it reaches the outside of the flare and morph into the Oxford bag shapes of the 1930s. Look to the 1930s for inspiration and the film The Aviator for classy well cut trousers, with length, style and grace.

In The Aviator, Cate Blanchett played Katharine Hepburn who often wore pants as Letizia wears on this occasion. Those who don't think Letizia a fashionable dresser might want to flip through a VOGUE magazine now and then. Letizia knows a little bit more about fashion than you might think.

True, but those pants are still not suitable for the event. Cropped pants are seen as casual pants (at least here in the US) that are just about never worn for formal occasions like the one the couple attended, it looks weird and unusual to pair a professional top with casual pair of capris.

I think casual is in what else it is paired with. If Letizia had worn a simple cotton T-shirt with these pants then I would agree with you - too casual for a royal engagement. But she paired it with a jacket and heels. Just like you can dress jeans up with a blazer and heels or dress them way down with a polo shirt.

Also, keep in mind that she is travelling and performing two or three engagements in a day. She cannot possibly bring her entire closet with her, so she has to bring pieces that mix and match and can be worn with other items. Maybe she's planning on really making these pants casual for when she travels back to Madrid or taking in some R&R time when all the official engagements are done. Also, Letizia is the queen of recycling - I'm sure we'll be seeing these pants again in the near future. ;)

It's usually alright to dress up a pair of jeans, but when it comes to cropped pants, it's rather hard to dress it up. With this outfit, it's like Letizia couldn't decide whether she wanted to go casual or not. It just looks strange trying to dress up a pair of cropped pants. This outfit just didn't look good.;

The occasion is the important, of course you could dress up a pair of jeans or dress them down, but one would never wear jeans at such an occasion like the couple were wearing. The same applies for capris.;)

She should re-worn the black skirt that she wore earlier then and brought a pair of jeans for when she really wants to relax and be casual on her down time.;)

I like the pants, maybe she is going to be a trendsetter and we will see more royals in capri-pants at official functions.:) That would be nice!:D

I also like the pants and her outfit. It looks fresh and makes me think of the summer:)

More than 10000 people offered a warm welcome to the Princes de Asturias at Ciutadella (Menorca), where they visited the plaza del Born and the cathedral, which reopened its doors after more than two years of restoration works.

TRH arrived at 7 o’clock in the afternoon and were received by the mayor, Llorenç Brondo, and by a folklore group that interpreted fandangos.

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia went to the Majorm del Born street, where they were affectionately received by more than 10000 neighbours of Ciutadella, who cheered and greeted the Princes. TRH were about 20 minutes crossing the old downtown of this city, until arriving at the cathedral, where they were received by the bishop of Menorca, Joan Piris, who congratulated them for their future baby: “it is a blessing of God for your family and España”. In addition, the bishop of Menorca welcomed them and expressed his certainty that the approach of the Princes to “the warm people of this island is allowing to increase their knowledge about the Balearic reality”.

Afterwards, TRH attended a performance of the Chorus of the Capella Davidica, directed by Gabriel Barceló, and which interpreted a song of Mallorcan entitled “veri, veri voú”. After the performance, the Princes of Asturias went to the cloister of the old seminary, where they signed in the honour book and offered a reception to the authorities and civil society of Menorca.

After the route through the temple, that lasted about 20 minutes, TRH approached once again the thousands of citizens who were crowded in the streets of the historical downtown, to greet and congratulate them for their paternity. In addition, the president of the Athletic Ciutadella, Llorenç Casasnovas, distinguished Doña Letizia as an honour member.

During the route, some young people hold a republican flag and a poster with an erased Crown and shouted: “Tomorrow, Spain will be a Republic”. Prince Felipe approached them and greeted some of them, whereas others refused to do it.

Before their visit to Ciutadella, the Princes had visited the cheese factory Coinga with denomination of origin in Alaior, where they were received by near 500 people, and they were presented with two pairs of traditional canvas shoes (one in white and other in cream) and with a photo of King Don Juan Carlos from when he visited Menorca in 1973, yet as Prince of Spain.

During this third day of official visit to Balears, TRH also visited the Hall de Menorca and had a meeting of work with representatives of enterprise sectors of this island, at the cloister of El Carmen.

2000 people received today the Princes of Asturias, at their arrival to the Paseo Vara de Rey of Ibiza. The president of the Hall, Pere Palau, and the mayor of Ibiza, Xicu Tarrés, welcomed the Princes, who arrived at the island with more than 15 minutes of delay. Don Felipe and Doña Letizia will meet some businessmen who work on the transportation sector of the island, and afterwards they’ll visit the headquarters of the Insular Hall. After a lunch with several authorities, the couple will visit the heliport of Formentera. Finnaly reception to the civil society, hosted at the Hotel Torre del Mar, will put full stop to the official acts of the Princes in Ibiza.

The length of her pants look more like crop pants than capris. Crop pants are almost like normal length pants, except they don't quite reach the ankle.
