when I almost bumped into queen Sofia in NYC in the eighties in a department store, I told my friends and none knew there was a Spanish monarchy. I would not have known about the European royals either had I not lived in Paris for a couple of years. We only hear about the British and Monaco.

Letizia made this girl happy
"I met, hugged, chatted with, and took pictures with the Queen of Spain. Earlier today I was feeling down because I was called a man; however, if the Queen of Spain, whose met all sorts of beautiful people, can call me gorgeous and tell me I have a beautiful spirit, then I know it's true."

Yes, this video, at 3:57
Leti asks: "Can we touch them?" and the gentleman answers: "sure, just don't tear it up"
Felipe also touch them, and so does another gentleman with them.
Can't say I don't understand them. The literature nerd in me (and the girl from La Mancha ) couldn't had gotten her hands out of an old copy of our dear Don Quixote

From the NY times:
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/2015...pain.html?_r=0
Quote:
The message was a poignant one for the hundreds in the crowd, including a large number of Cuban American students.
"Hispanics in the United States have many reasons to feel proud and one of the reasons is to have the privileged heritage of two global cultures," he said.
Felipe drew laughter when he spoke of someone who is 'no-lingual' and treats their mother tongue like a foreign language.
"All of us, together, could make it possible for these 'no-linguals' to not feel deprived of a cultural heritage, since their situation between two languages gives them access to two infinitely rich worlds. Those of Miguel de Cervantes and of William Shakespeare," he said.
|
Is this a message for certain someone?

So, talking about shared heritage , now F&L are visiting St. Agustine, the oldest town in USA that was established by a Spaniard in 16th century.
The city is celebrating its 450 anniversary and it looks like they are in the mood

Even the escort receiving the royal couple is on point: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CPMcV6kWUAA8amk.jpg
Looks like fun, actually
And seems like Queen Letizia will receive a golden pendant from the city that is a small recreation of an obelisk in the city that honors the first Spanish Constitution, our "Pepa" from 1812. The monument was erected when Florida was still a Spanish colony. Here is an article and a video on the gif, with an interview with the goldsmith that created it:

As I suspected a lot more coverage of them in Florida. New York Times, abc news, linking st. Augustine, and Hispanic angle
