Aren't those city names in Spain?
Isn't Covadonga the name of the monastery they visited before they were married?
Is it normal to give your kids names after cities?

Pelayo seams to be a nice one, because of all the connections with Asturias and San Pelayo. Also Letizia has stated they both like the name, but perhaps the child should have his first name from King Juan Carlos, who is furthermore an excellent king in the history of Spain... Perhaps Juan Pelayo? :)

How about Covadonga... that would be reeeeeeally weird... poor child!!

Victoria Eugenia is also a nice name for a girl, because of the historical bounds, but Elena's daughter is already named Victoria Federica, so I particularly would prefer such a beautiful and traditional name as Isabel.

I like the name Covadonga and it is not weird at all in spanish. It's the name of a town in Asturias, and the name of a famous medieval battle that took place there, but also the name of the Saint Virgin Mary of Covadonga, and as such, is a quite common name in this region of Spain.
I rather like it but for a girl I would also like Isabel, since this is the name of the two only spanish queens. I would like that specially if the firstborne is a girl.
I'm not a fan of the name Sofia, though. Even if she is doing a good job as a queen it is a "foreing" name and there has never be anyone in the royal family with that name.
For a boy, my bet goes for Juan, after Felipe's grandfather who never had a chance to reign, and Pelayo maybe as a second name.

For first names maybe Mercedes for a girl or Juan for a boy after Felipe's paternal grandparents.

i vote for isabel if it's girl, nice and traditional name in spanish royals.. and fernando if it's a boy as the first catholic king.
i'm sure there would be some mention to letizia's grandmother menchu and her grandfather who recently passed away, i think his name was jose luis.

I don't think they'll name him Juan. It is already the name of Cristina's eldest son, as well as one of the secondary names of Elena's son.

Maybe they will name him after Juan Carlos's brother who died accidentally or after Sofia's father? (Although Cristina's second son is named Pablo, the Spanish equivalent of Paul.)

I think Fernando or Alfonso are good choices, although I myself do not care for the names, I think Felipe and Letizia are very respectful of history and will honour Spain and the monarchy in the naming of their child.

For a girl I think Isabella is a beautiful Spanish name and probably Maria for the late Countess.

Ok, my question is maybe missplaced, but i really like the (female) name Ines - imo, it sounds so mysterious, even sensual, but so refreshing in the same time (even if i doubt that F and L will eventually call their girl that way, it doesnt sound much as a traditionnal name)
so, i wanted to ask some spanish people to tell me more about it: i suppose it.s a modern name (so, is it?), is it more caracteristic for south america than spain, etc etc?
thanks a lot

It is an old Spanish name quite common in the Middle Age and Reanissance. A famous woman called Ines was Ines de Castro, a Spanish lady lover of Pedro I, King of Portugal. She was killed because of political reasons.
