Another senior royal, although in this case hasn't tested positive or not, yet.

More worrisome then in a country like the UK where there is an abundance of adult royals to serve as regent.

Hopefully King Felipe is okay, or if he is infected, he has a swift recovery. :flowers:

King Felipe will be OK, but, just for the sake of argument, regencies are regulated by Art.59 of the Spanish constitution.

If the king or queen is a minor, the regency is automatically taken over by his/her surviving parent, meaning that, if Leonor became queen before reaching the age of 18, Queen Letizia would be regent. If there are no surviving parents, then the regency goes to the next person in the line of succession who is of age, in this case, Infanta Elena.

If there are no surviving parents and no adults in the line of succession (which is not the case in Spain), then the two houses of the Spanish parliament must appoint a regent, who may be one single person or a council, according to the constitution, of three or five people.

The Spanish constitution of 1978 is one of the best in the world in terms of constitutional regulation of the monarchy and it pretty much covers all bases IMHO.

EDIT: Queens dowager serving as regents were already the default norm before the current Spanish constitution. Maria Cristina of Two Siciles for example served as regent for Isabella II and Maria Christina of Austria was regent for Alfonso XIII.

I hope that King Felipe VI is not infected.
But it is strange that Queen Letizia and her daughters do not need to be quarantined, but this is probably because this is how it was recommended by the health authorities or they will not have been in close contact with Felipe over the weekend.

That's the system here too - it's only the person who's been in contact with someone who's got the virus who has to quarantine. Other members of their household don't have to.

I'm sure Felipe will be fine. But it does again show that this nightmare pandemic affects everyone!

I hope Felipe is ok and tests negative.

Does this mean that the rest of the family will be isolating too? I know Leonor has already been in isolation a couple of months ago after there was a positive case in her class.

For now only King Felipe VI will be quarantined.
Probably the king will have already done the Covid-19 test but the result is not yet known.
Apparently, Felipe has no symptoms.

I can imagine that high profile public figures chose to live separate lives in their own household as much as possible during corona, imagine the whole family severely infected.

Felipe and his family live in a cottage (the Prince's Pavillion) on the grounds east of the Zarzuela Palace. The house is not very big making it difficult for the King to be isolated from the rest of the family. I assume either the King or the Queen and the girls may have moved temporarily to Zarzuela to enable social distancing. Does anybody know?

If someone is in contact with a confirmed positive Covid-19 case that person is tested. If the result is positive those who have been in contact with them are tested and quarantined.
Felipe's test must have come out negative or Letizia and the girls would have been forced to quarantine too.

Now Felipe must wait the prescribed days of quarantine before being tested again, isolating in case he starts to develop the illness.

In March Letizia also had to self-isolate for 15 days after attending a meeting with a minister who tested positive a few days later. The press reported at the time that she was shut off in F&L's suite of rooms. I guess Letizia has moved out to a guest bedroom for the time being.

The King chairs the Board of Trustees of the Carolina Foundation in its XXXI edition, whose objective is the promotion of cultural relations and cooperation in educational and scientific matters between Spain and the countries of the Ibero-American Community of Nations.
