State Visit to Cuba, January 2018

Los Reyes harán su primera visita oficial a Cuba a principios de enero

The Kings Don Felipe and Doña Letizia will travel to Cuba next January in what will be the first state trip of a Spanish monarch to the Caribbean island. This was confirmed by the Spanish Foreign Minister at the end of his meeting with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, yesterday in Havana. Dastis did not specify the exact date but quoted the month of January as the invitation was addressed by President Raúl Castro "and the logical thing is that the visit be made while he remains president."

Felipe doesn't look like going to a funeral, not even wearing a black tie.
 
His tie looks black to me in the photos. What he's not wearing is a black suit, but they were visiting the funeral chapel. He has been with the King since Felipe was 16, he started as his bodyguard

He was who accompanied King Felipe and Queen Letizia in the car during the proclamation, he had been ill and they wanted to have that gesture with him.

This article says Letizia loved "Pepe" almost as much as Felipe did because he helped her when she first entered Zarzuela and wasn't welcome by JC's courtiers. She visited his house three times over the summer after he got sick.
