King Felipe VI and Government formations

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Lula, Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate the information you are providing to those of us outside of Spain.

You stated that the King & Queen are usually accompanied by Ministers and Secretaries of State as well as representatives of Autonomous communities, but must they be accompanied. Is it mandatory? If it is a visit to a museum or presentation of a prize, can't Their Majesties be greeted by the director of the museum or chairman of the board of a foundation issuing the prize? Does a minister accompany Queen Sofia when she represents her foundation on a cooperation trip?

I know this situation is unique because of the delay in forming a government. It has affected the agenda of the Royal House. With the exception of Official and State Visits, is it mandatory to have politicians accompany the Royal family on engagements outside of the palace? Or is it just custom? Can Their Majesties make changes so their agendas are not disturbed during the election process?

Cooperation trips of the Queen, before with Sofia and now with Letizia, are organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation.

Spain is a parliamentary monarchy and the King's acts must be countersigned by the government, hence the habit of being accompanied by a member of the government in their events.

By custom and protocol it is also normal that regional and local authorities on where the event is held join to them. Often regional and local governments are also related to the event, because they manage a school or a museum, support a conference, finance some works, are part of a board of trustees...

Lula, Thank you for taking the time to explain. I understand now. I hope the political situation is resolved soon. Thank you again.

Bickering between Spain's far-left Podemos party and the Socialists escalated Friday over the formation of a new government, leading experts to predict the country is headed to another national election.

Spain: Govn't talks take hit as negotiating parties bicker | Daily Mail Online

It seems that the political limbo goes on and on and on. As lula said in another thread, the political crisis has reduced the Kings' schedule to insignificance, it's a shame.

I had hoped all this hot mess would be over by now, but it seems the government talks are not going anywhere...

Lets hope there's some sort of breakthrough in the talks!

Another election now seems unavoidable in Spain.

Some 88.2 per cent of Podemos members rejected the formation of a coalition government with Socialist Party PSOE and the liberal Ciudadanos (Citizens) party, party official Pablo Echenique announced.

About 91.8 per cent were in favour of an alliance between Podemos and PSOE, but not with Ciudadanos, a move that the leader of the Socialists, Pedro Sanchez, has rejected.

I've always thought that an election would be very likely in the near future....

Based on the latest opinion polls, there is a small probability that PP and Ciudadanos might barely get together to an absolute majority following new elections, but the most likely scenario is still a hung parliament with the conservative bloc (i.e PP+ Ciudadanos) gaining a few additional seats though.

Thank you. Well, this situation must be "unlocked" some way or another...

Belgium was without an elected government for almost 2 years, no need to panic ;)

I follow this now for a while and just can smh how they behave. Yeah the cartoon showcases it perfectly. The Spaniards deserve better than those fighting kids.
