I too am impressed but the SRF's support for Letizia and her family during this time. I'm not suprised though. I think they all genuinely love Letizia and her family. You can tell they all like each other. Its just really great to have all that support during such a terrible time.

I have to say the same.. It is touching how the whole royal family has rallied around Letizia and her family. True unity. The hugs Queen Sofia gave to Letizia and her mother Paloma were touching. I was also wondering where Telma was..

Article from Terra:
Dońa Sofía, accompanied by her daughter, Infanta Elena and her sister, princess Irene of Greece, was the first one to arrive in an automobile.
Next were the Princes of Asturias next to Paloma Rocasolano and her parents, Francisco and Enriqueta and the other sister of Erika, Telma Ortiz.
Just after leaving the automobiles, the Queen took carińosamente the arm of Paloma Rocasolano, while the Princess of Asturias did the same thing with her maternal grandpathers, helped by Infanta Elena.
In the fore door of the parish was, from fifteen minutes before, the father of the Princess de Asturias, Jesus Ortiz, along with his wife, Ana Togores, and his mother Menchu Alvarez del Valle.
The other one to attend the funeral were the Dukes of Soria, Infanta Margarita and Carlos Zurita, accompanied by their children, Alfonso and Maria, as well as the cousin of the Prince of Asturias, Bruno Gómez-Acebo.
Also, they attended the funeral Antonio Vigo, father of Erica's daughter, his last fiancè, Robert Garci'a, and Emilio Aragón, the president of the television La Sexta, in whose company Erika Ortiz worked.
Some other people entered the temple, located in the municipality madrileńo of Pozuelo de Alarcón, by a lateral door. One is a sober construction, without no class of adornment.
Emérito military archbishop José Manuel Estepa has celebrated the religious act in this parish of the Prado de Somosaguas (Pozuelo), who the Royal Family will follow from the side of the Gospel and the relatives of Erika from the side of the Epistle.

I read about it this morning, the loss of their daugther brought to my mind when Empress Farah of Iran loss her daugther in similar circumstances.
I was touched by the way the inmediate and extended members of the Spanish Royal Family became so united and supportive with Letizia's family.

Wow! can the vindictive Penafiel go any lower? His issues with the Royal family don't let go even in this time of pain for Letizia and her family. Bravo for Pilar Rahola not only for defending the right of the family to mourn in peace the loss of their child but Pilar also told the other reporter in the air to 'shut up' (silencio!) when she brought up Penafiel's press article attacking Erika. She even went further to tell Penafiel on the air to get psychiatric help himself for his pathological obsession against Letizia.
(ps. there is another thread in the Forum that explains the background between Penafiel's rage against the Queen, I don't want to waste one more font on him here.

Just so sad to watch!
I have some questions for those who know royal matters.
Where there no other royals there?
I mean, not for representation of country but friendship. I would have liked to see Prince Fredrick there as he is a good friend of Prince Felipe and it is his wife's sister who died. Same with Prince Haakon maybe. Not in any royal capacity but just friendship.
Also with the YouTube video, were they clapping when Queen Sofia was getting in the car? why?

what an emotive set of pictures. my favourite image of the day: francisco, grandfather of letizia, being escorted by letizia and by elena on the other side. a real gesture from elena in my opinion. i have the impression francisco sometimes feels "out of place", quite normal i must say as he passed from being a normal person to being in the spotlight all the time -as the media knows they will get information from him because he is very down to earth- to being the princess' grandfather. the fact elena holded his hand was an amazing gesture. BRAVO elena, chapeau!
i'm glad to see everyone looks a lot better today than the day of the incineration.

even if haakon and frederik are friends with felipe, i doubt they are that close to letizia, and even if they were... i think this is quite an intimate matter. i'm not sure on how close the relationship with them must be, but i doubt it is that close to invite them to her sister's funeral.
some questions:
in this photo, the queen and paloma are walking with their right hands on their chest. why is that? is it a protocolar rule? i noticed that sofia normally walks like that, although it may be just to prevent her scarf from flying away...)

i was told about a video of antonio walking with carla and two other women yesterday. he apparently was telling carla in the video "how she is the most beautiful daughter in the world". anyone knows anything else on this?

Poor Felipe, everybody is trying to catch anybody's arm, but he is not allowed to do so by that rude member of the organization.
He protests, yes, but he is finally left aside to enter the church by himself.

It looks to me they are just holding on to the coat's lapel. I don't think it means anything else, the right hand could be they are just right handed. When I go out (and we are in freezing weather over here) I too use the right hand to hold on to the coat, scarf or hat.
On the above video, the moment the Queen appears she gets an applause but it does not look as something disrespectful. Seems to me more of the expectation on her to arrive from her long trip and take charge of protecting Letizia's mother by holding on to her, while Letizia and Elena escorted the grandfather walking right behind them.
