U.S. President George W. Bush (R) meets with King Abdullah of Jordon in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington September 22, 2005.
King Holds Talks with US President
Washington, Sep. 22 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II on Thursday held talks with US President George W. Bush on the necessity of continuing the international efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East and the situation in Iraq in addition to the bilateral ties. King Abdullah expressed readiness to exert every effort to push the peace process forward. His Majesty, who concluded a working visit to the US, considered that hope was renewed after the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza Strip, calling to build over what was done to move forward with the peace process and establish the viable Palestinian state. King Abdullah stressed the necessity of supporting the efforts of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to impose security control, support economy and build the civil society's institutions. The King expressed thanks and appreciations over the support presented by the US. King Abdullah added, in press statements with President Bush following the meeting, ''We held fruitful talks on the peace process and the situation in Iraq''. US President expressed appreciation over the role of His Majesty the King in supporting peace. ''The US respect and appreciate the leadership of His Majesty the King'', said President Bush, pointing that one of the most important issues he discussed with King Abdullah was visiting and meeting President of the Palestinian National Authority PNA, Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon by King Abdullah to help them to support the peace process. President Bush also expressed thanks for the pioneering role of His Majesty the King to help in achieving peace. ''The United Stated needs your rational voice to speak to the Palestinian and Israeli leaders'' President Bush said, who also stressed that the relations between Jordan and US are strong, important and vital. //Petra// 222325 Local SEP 2005

amina1, i would have to say that the current king visits the us so much is precisely because King Hussein himself visited the us frequently. since it's creation, jordan has attempted to forge close ties with the west, be it britain or the united states. whether that has actually benefited jordanians is arguable. i don't really know what side to stand on. but i think the current king is just continuing a long-standing tradition.
