Natalie Portman on Queen Rania, her involvement with FINCA

you'll find the following excerpt under "2004"

At a meeting with Queen Rania of Jordan ("She’s the smartest, most eloquent, beautiful, kind and giving woman ever." Time Out London August 4, 2004) Portman learned of the Foundation for International Community Assistance (FINCA). Since then she serves as the Ambassador of Hope for the organisation which helps women in the developing world build businesses through micro-loans. "I think it's an amazing way to combat many of the side effects of poverty. [...] It's sustainable, which is key. . . Natalie Portman.com

May 4, 2007 - JFK FORUM, HARVARD

Queen Rania stresses common values, urge students to bridge cultural divide

Boston, May 4 (Petra)-- In a speech at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, Thursday, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah warned of the growing rift between East and West, and urged students to concentrate their efforts in bridging that gap.

"The gulf between narratives is wide – and only getting wider," she said, "and as a result, I fear a creeping affliction on both sides of what the philosopher William James called 'the blindness in human beings' that prevents us from understanding the feelings of those 'different from ourselves.'"

"No matter where we come from, what we look like, how we dress, or to whom we pray, when it comes to what makes us laugh or cry, when it comes to what we dream of for ourselves and for our children, when it comes to how hard we work each day, we are usually more alike than we are different, " said Queen Rania. Petra

"On the issue of Palestine, for example, looking out an American window, the first thing you might see is terrorist attacks against Israelis, and Israel’s paramount obligation to protect its people from harm," she said, "But looking through an Arab window, the image in the foreground is generations of Palestinian boys and girls growing up with no country, no rights, and no future – and that image has not changed for 50 years."

Meeting In a Common Room: Queen Rania of Jordan Calls for Spirit of Concern in Public Discourse

May 4, 2007 — Rather than stay hunkered down in their own separate corners, East and West must strive to appreciate their common humanity, Her Majesty Queen Rania of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan said Thursday at the John F. Kennedy Forum. KSG

May 5, 2007 - MIT

Queen Rania visits MIT, briefed on best practices

Boston, May 5 (Petra)-- During her last day in the city of Boston, Friday, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah visited Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where the faculty briefed her on a number of successful initiatives launched there and touched on the upcoming MIT Learning International Networks Consortium (LINC). The initiatives are all in line with Queen Rania's core interests, including eradicating poverty, securing education for all, and empowering women.

. . . Queen Rania will soon be hosting MIT LINC in the Dead Sea, Jordan. It is an educational initiative sponsored by MIT, with the vision to provide quality education to all the world's children, regardless of geographic hindrances, by using today's computer and telecommunications technologies. This will be the fourth MIT LINC ever held. Petra

Wow America is currently hosting 2 queens. However I have not heard anything about Rania all headlines are about Queen Elizabeth II. As I am sure they will continue to be. Big difference is that Rania is doing a working visit with somewhat private(smaller/quieter) initiatives and the Queen of England is on a very public state visit here that is taking place in very historic areas and also our capital. But it's still cool that America currently has 2 queens visiting.

Rania's also a more regular visit to the US. Since 2005, she has been making 2 working visits to the US every year, once in May (solo visit) and once in September (with her husband, attending the Clinton Global Intiative, UN summit etc). This is already her second visit to the States in 2007 (she last visited in March, there was a private dinner at the White House and King Abdullah's speech to Congress).

Getting back to this visit, Im looking forward to tonight's Seeds of Peace Gala Dinner. Queen Noor and President Clinton are on the advisory board (so is President Bush). I hope Queen Noor will show up.
