Queen Rania calls for restoring dignity to Syrian refugees at the screening of documentary film Salam Neighbor in Washington, DC.
April 15, 2016
Office of Her Majesty – Press Department – Washington, D.C.) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah underlined the importance of supporting Syrian refugees living in Jordan and other host countries in the Middle East, describing them as “the best hope for rebuilding their broken land.”

The Queen said the refugees have experienced unimaginable hardship, leaving behind everything they had “to choose peace instead of war.”

She made these remarks at a screening of the new documentary ‘Salam Neighbor’ at Georgetown University in Washington DC on Thursday.

The film follows award-winning filmmakers Zach Ingrasci and Chris Temple while they lived among refugees for one month in Zaatari camp, the second largest refugee camp in the world, after Dadaab Camp in eastern Kenya.

Queen Rania calls for more sustainable support to countries hosting refugees at World Bank meeting
April 15, 2016
(Office of Her Majesty – Press Department – Washington, D.C.) Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah pressed an audience of high-ranking officials and representatives of grass roots organizations on the urgent need for a more sustainable humanitarian response to the global refugee crisis.

She made these statements in Washington, DC on Friday in a speech she delivered at the World Bank Group Session on Forced Displacement, in the presence of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah.

Also speaking at the session were Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-Moon, President of the World Bank Group Dr Jim Yong Kim, and President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker.

Queen Rania, who comes from a region that has been at the center of ongoing civil wars causing the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II, identified the unfortunate title the Middle East has earned itself as “the world’s largest producer and host of forced displacement.”

April 18, 2016 – Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan called for greater awareness and support for the plight of the millions of refugees fleeing Syria during a visit and documentary film screening at Georgetown on April 14.

Despite the significant strain on Jordan’s infrastructure, she said her country and its people have remained hospitable to the 1.3 million Syrian refugees who have been granted asylum there, providing safe harbor and access to critical services such as healthcare and education.
