Princess Elisabeth, first cousin of Queen Margrethe II, today celebrates her 80th birthday. She was born in Copenhagen in 1935 to Prince Knud of Denmark and his wife Caroline-Mathilde, and was first grandchild of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. Her full name is Elisabeth Caroline-Mathilde Alexandrine Helena Olga Thyra Feodora Estrid Margarethe Désirée. Two brothers, Ingolf and Christian, joined the family in 1940 and 1942. Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Copenhagen this morning, during the Chancellor’s day visit to the country. Chancellor Merkel had an audience with the Queen at Christian VII’s Palace in the Amalienborg complex. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was also present, before accompanying the Chancellor to meetings.

Crown Prince Frederik inaugurated the knowledge and conference centre Green Solution House in Bornholm yesterday. During the ribbon cutting, the Crown Prince had lined up about nine attendees to help with the ribbon cutting. He gave them advise before they cut the ribbon, Prince Frederik said he has great experience. The Green Solution House is a sustainable hotel and conference center located in Ronne on the island of Bornholm.
