Denmark’s Princess Elisabeth Turns 80

Princess Elisabeth, first cousin of Queen Margrethe II, today celebrates her 80th birthday. She was born in Copenhagen in 1935 to Prince Knud of Denmark and his wife Caroline-Mathilde, and was first grandchild of King Christian X and Queen Alexandrine. Her full name is Elisabeth Caroline-Mathilde Alexandrine Helena Olga Thyra Feodora Estrid Margarethe Désirée. Two brothers, Ingolf and Christian, joined the family in 1940 and 1942. Princess Benedikte Receieves SOS Children’s Villages Family Prize 2015

HRH Princess Benedikte of Denmark has been awarded the SOS Children’s Villages Family Prize 2015. The award was awarded to HRH today at Christian VIII’s Palace, Amalienborg by the director of SOS Children’s Villages, Paula Guillet de Monthoux. Anniversary of Liberation Day Marked in Denmark

Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary and Prince Joachim today marked the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day at ceremonies across Denmark. In the morning, Crown Prince Frederik attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Anchor at the Nyhavn in Copenhagen. Queen Margrethe Marks Danish WWII Liberation Anniversary

Queen Margrethe II today attended a commemoration to mark the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Denmark from German forces in World War Two. Queen Margrethe Holds Audience with Angela Merkel

Denmark’s Queen Margrethe II welcomed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Copenhagen this morning, during the Chancellor’s day visit to the country. Chancellor Merkel had an audience with the Queen at Christian VII’s Palace in the Amalienborg complex. Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt was also present, before accompanying the Chancellor to meetings.

Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary today attended an Anzac Day service at Copenhagen’s Citadel to mark the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli Campaign. She attended a church service alongside the Australian Ambassador to Denmark, Damien Miller, and the Turkish Ambassador to Denmark, Mehmet Donme, before walking from the church to the Citadel’s Remembrance Monument where the official party laid wreaths in memory of the fallen soldiers. Denmark’s Crown Prince Opens Green Solution House

Crown Prince Frederik inaugurated the knowledge and conference centre Green Solution House in Bornholm yesterday. During the ribbon cutting, the Crown Prince had lined up about nine attendees to help with the ribbon cutting. He gave them advise before they cut the ribbon, Prince Frederik said he has great experience. The Green Solution House is a sustainable hotel and conference center located in Ronne on the island of Bornholm.

A gala banquet was held tonight at Christiansborg Palace to celebrate Queen Margrethe’s 75th birthday tomorrow.
