Today, Friday January 6, His Majesty King Felipe, together with Her Majesty Queen Letizia, presided over the annual Pascua Militar, a military ceremony held at the Plaza de la Armería at the Royal Palace of Madrid.
During the ceremony, attended by, among others, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez Pérez-Castejón and several Ministers of the Government, the King inspected the Royal Guard formation, the national anthem was played and also took place a 21-gun salute.
Then, inside the Palace, the Royal Couple hosted a reception for members of the government, the authorities and a representation of the Armed Forces.
In his speech King Felipe said that “the year 2022 will forever be marked by the unjustifiable, illegal and brutal Russian aggression and invasion of Ukraine”, adding that the war “strengthen our cohesion and present a common front to the invasion of Ukraine”.
Pascua Militar is held each January 6 and was established in 1782 by King Charles III to mark the reconquering of the Balearic Island of Minorca by the Spanish Armed Forces.
