Dutch Royal Family Present Prince Claus Impact Award 2022

Today, Wednesday December 7, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, Princess Beatrix, Prince Constantijn and Princess Laurentien, attended the 2022 Prince Claus Impact Award ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.
Since 2021 there are three categories of awards: annual Seed Awards; thematic Mentorship Awards; and Impact Awards which are presented every two years.
The 2022 Impact Awards were presented to: Ailton Krenak, an indigenous leader, environmentalist, philosopher, poet and writer from Brazil; Alain Gomis, a film director and screenwriter from Senegal; Hassan Darsi, a visual artist from Morocco; Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, an artist and human rights defender from Cuba; María Medrano, a writer, poet, editor and prison abolition activist from Argentina and May al-Ibrashy, an architect engaged in heritage conservation, restoration and repurposing from Egypt.
The Impact Awards are presented “to artists and cultural practitioners in recognition of both the excellent quality of their work and of their positive contribution to the development of their society”.
As Honorary Chairman of the Prince Claus Fund, Prince Constantijn presented the award.
The Prince Claus Awards are presented by the Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development since 1997 annually to artists, thinkers and cultural organizations, particularly in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The Prince Claus Fund was established on 6 September 1996 as a tribute to Prince Claus’s dedication to culture and development.
