Swedish State Visit to Jordan Begins

At the invitation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustav and Queen Silvia started today, Tuesday November 15, a three-day state visit to Jordan.
Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania officially received the Swedish Royal Couple with a welcoming ceremony held in the courtyard of the Al Husseiniya Palace. Crown Prince Hussein was present as well.
Afterwards, in the Al Husseiniya Palace, took place a private meeting between the Royal Couples and the Crown Prince.
Following a meeting between King Carl Gustav, King Abdullah, the Crown Prince and the Swedish and Jordan delegation, the Swedish Royal Couple, accompanied by Queen Rania, paid a visit to the Queen Rania Family and Child Center (QRFCC). The center, established in 2005 by Jordan River Foundation (JRF), aims “to provide services and support to families who are at risk and to educate children on child abuse and child rights”.
At lunchtime the Royal Couples attended a luncheon hosted by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
In early afternoon King Carl Gustav and Queen Silvia were received by Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh and then were present at the official opening of the Swedish Dialogue Institute and the new, expanded Swedish embassy in Amman. The Swedish Dialogue Institute, established in 1998, “is a governmental agency that serves as a platform for contacts and dialogue between on the one hand Sweden and the countries of Europe and on the other hand the countries of the Middle East and North Africa”.
In the evening the Jordanian King and Queen hosted a state banquet held at the Al-Husseinieh Palace.
King Carl Gustav, in his speech, said that he and Queen Silvia are “delighted to once again be here”, adding that Sweden and Jordan “have excellent cooperation in many areas, including in the field of environmental protection and renewable energy”.
