Belgian King and Queen Begin State Visit to Lithuania

At the invitation of the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Gitanas Nausėda, Their Majesties Their Majesties King Philippe and Queen Mathilde started today, Monday October 24, a three-day state visit to Lithuania.
Upon the arrival at the airport of the capital Vilnius, the Royal Couple was welcomed by representative of the government of the Republic of Lithuania.
Then the King and the Queen moved to the Presidencial Palace where they were officially welcomed by Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania and his wife, Diana Nausediene. The King and the President inspected the guard of honour and the national anthems were played. Inside the palace the Royal Couple signed the golden book and prior to the private meeting took place the exchange of decorations: President Nausėda received the Grand Ribbon in the Order of Leopold and the First Lady received the Grand Cross in the Order of the Crown while the King and Queen receive the Grand Cross with Chain and the Grand Cross of the Order of Vytautas the Great.
In early afternoon, while the King and the President held a press conference, the Queen, accompanied by the Furst Lady, paid a visit to Vilna Gaon Museum of Jewish History. The museum, established in 1989, is dedicated to the historical and cultural heritage of Lithuanian Jewry. During the visit took place the opening of an exhibition of Kopelio Simelovičiaus, a Litvak artist who lived in Belgium and the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Museum and the Jewish Museum of Belgium.
Afterwards King Philippe and Queen Mathilde laid a wreath at the Memorial to those killed for the Lithuanian Independence.
The first day ended with a state dinner hosted by President Nausėda and the First Lady at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
