Queen Máxima in Tanzania: October 17-19

As a special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for inclusive finance for development, Queen Máxima arrived at the Kilimanjaro International Airport, in the Republic Tanzania on the evening of Monday October 17 for a two-day visit.
The Queen started the first day in Tanzania, on Tuesday October 18, with two field visits. The first field visit was focused on the work of “ACRE Africa”, an organization that “uses weather data from satellites and automated weather stations to estimate the situation at a farm and potential damage to the harvest”. This organization also helps farmers to insure their crops against drought or flooding. The Queen met with local customers and farmers who receive help from the organization.
The following field visit was focused on the “MomCare Program” which is supported by the non-profit organization “PharmAccess”.
The “MomCare Program” provides “a digital insurance card with which pregnant women at different stages of their pregnancy can go to selected hospitals for care and guidance”.
In the afternoon the Queen moved to the city of Dar es Salaam to continue with the field visits. Queen Maxima paid a visit to a local market where she met with market traders and was informed about their experiences with digital financial services.
Later the Queen met with Tanzania’s Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation to discuss about financial inclusion.
Today, Wednesday October 19, last day of the working visit to Tanzania, Queen Maxima was busy with several meetings in the city of Dar es Salaam.
The Queen attended two roundtable meetings focused on “identifying opportunities and key barriers for fintech to drive financiainclusion in the country” and on sustainable development at the presence of members of private sector.
Then Queen Maxima was received by Florens Luoga, Governor of the Bank of Tanzania, to talk about financiainclusion and inclusive digital public infrastructure. The following meeting was with Tanzania’s Deputy Finance Minister Hamad Hassan Chande to talk about “opportunities to collaborate and boost financial inclusion”.
Afterwards the Queen met with representatives of the Generation Equality Forum, a “world’s leading initiative to accelerate investment and implementation on gender equality”.
Queen Máxima ended the working visit with a bilateral meeting with the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, focused on “ways to support financial inclusion and an inclusive digital economy in Tanzania”.
