Queen Elizabeth II Passes Away, Aged 96
Buckingham Palace has this evening announced the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at the age of 96.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow,” the Palace statement said.
Details of her funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. Her eldest son, Charles, has ascended the British throne.
Queen Elizabeth, who was born in April 1926 and was the longest serving British monarch in history, was not known to have been unwell apart from having some mobility issues, but had had limited public appearances in the months previous. A statement was released earlier today stating the Queen’s doctors were concerned for her health, and were keeping her under medical observation.
The Queen is survived by her four children, eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.Filed under The United Kingdom.
