Queen Letizia Meets Jill Biden

Ahead of the upcoming NATO Summit that will take place in Madrid from Tuesday June 28 until Thursday June 30, Dr. Jill Biden, the US First Lady, who is accompanying the US President Joseph R. Biden Jr, arrived in Spain on Sunday June 26. On Monday June 27 Her Majesty Queen Letizia received the First Lady at the Zarzuela Palace.
After a private meeting, the Queen and the First Lady paid a visit to the headquarters of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC).
The Queen is permanent Honorary President of AECC. Upon the arrival they were received by Carolina Darias, Minister of Health of the Government of Spain, Ramón Reyes, president of the Spanish Association Against Cancer and Laura Ruiz de Galarreta, president of the Association in Madrid. During the visit Dr. Jill Biden was informed about several projects of the association, like the cognitive stimulation workshop, the physical exercise unit for oncology patients. The Queen and the First Lady also met with patients, doctors and experts.
On Tuesday June 28, Queen Letizia and Dr. Jill Biden were reunited again for a visit at the Reception, Care and Referral Center (CREADE). This center is “the first of the four facilities of this type authorized by the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine to attend and provide work and residence permits to those displaced by the war”. The Queen and the First Lady toured the facility along with the Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, José Luis Escrivá. During the visit they met with some Ukrainian families sheltered at the center and with volunteers and experts who are working at the center.
This time the First Lady was accompanied by her granddaughters Maisy and Finnegan.
