Dutch King and Queen Begin State Visit to Indonesia

Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima started today, Tuesday March 10, a four-day state visit to Indonesia.
The Royal Couple laid a wreath at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta in memory of the victims of wars and in particular the Indonesian war of independence.
Then the King and the Queen were officially welcomed by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo and his wife Iriana during a welcoming ceremony held in the courtyard of the Presidential Palace in Bogor. The King and the President inspected the guard of honor and then took place the planting of a tree in the garden of the Palace.
Inside the Palace after posing for the picture, took place an audience, a meeting with Indonesian and Dutch delegations and a joint press statement followed by a lunch hosted by the President.
In early afternoon the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Menteng Pulo Cemetery, where nearly 4300 Dutch people who died during the Second World War and the Indonesian war of independence are buried.
Afterwards the King and the Queen visited the Pipiltin Cocoa chocolate factory, a company that cooperates with farmers from various regions of Indonesia.
In the evening took place a reception and were signed agreement between Indonesian and Dutch companies.
Then, at the cultural centre of the Netherlands in Jakarta “Erasmus Huis”, the Royal Couple visited the exhibition “Innovation” that shows “the works of participating Indonesian photojournalists in the 2019 Permata Photojournalist Grant & 2020 Erasmus Huis Fellowship to Amsterdam program”.

    I wish HM King Willem-Alexander and HM Queen Maxima very fruitful visits to whichever parts of the world They may choose to visit. Hopefully, more and more countries will understand that real democracy can only be achieved in monarchies. At least this is my opinion.
