Duke and Duchess of Sussex step down from senior royal position

  January 8, 2020 at 7:10 pm by

It was announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have stepped down from their position as senior members of the royal family, without consulting Buckingham Palace beforehand.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced in an Instagram post that they “were to step back as senior members of the royal family” in order to create a “progressive new role within this institution”.

It was also announced that the couple would be spending time between England and North America, where the Duchess of Sussex hails from, explaining that they will be able to raise their baby son Archie “with an appreciation for the royal tradition in which he was born”, while also providing them “the space to focus on the next chapter”.

It is reported that members of the royal family reacted negatively to the news, with some of the media adding that the Queen was “deeply disappointed”. In October 2019, it was announced that the Duke of Sussex had filed a law suit against the Mail on Sunday for publishing the Duchess’s private letters.

The couple married in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle and their son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on 6 May 2019.

“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment. We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages. This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity. We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex For more information, please visit sussexroyal.com (link in bio) Image © PA

    gOD BLESSES

  2. Violette kogut says:

Sorry about their decision, which was predictable;;; the royal family did their best tor this couple, but an actress cannot changé her behavior and demands,,,, their decision is for the best:
    Good luck

  3. Reeves says:

Sad to hear this. I believe it is a poor decision but as they say “anything to keep the wife happy”. I do wish them well.

  4. Pearl says:

You can’t have it both ways. You can’t be privileged to be a part of the Royal Family and then say, “Well, today we feel like we want to take off and make some money for ourselves and take a step back.” I wish them the best in their endeavors as they retire from the Royal Family. No one ever asked Her Majesty The Queen if HM wished another kind of life, HM assumed her responsibilities and did the best job imaginable! Meghan could have been a wonderful asset to the Royal Family but she is too involved in “Me Me Me!” as an actress for too long, and for them to pull this stunt on The Duchess of Cambridge’s Birthday was both a slap in the face to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge as well as to the rest of the Royal Family. Ta Ta! I’ll never buy a thing with their brand on it!

Very well said Pearl. My focus is now on the duke and duchess of Cambridge who are doing a remarkable job and seem to bringing up a happy family and attended to their duties with a genuine interest in their causes. They make a difficult job look easy.I always admired Prince Harry too,who has done so much good for the queen and country,I will miss him not being part of the senior members of the Royal family.I am sad that it has come to this.He did have a special touch.

  6. Deb says:

Meghan is too competitive-especially with other women. And in the end Kate proved too good for her and is above her in hierarchy and will rise further above her. These rivalry things made it too hard for Meghan to co-exist. Best for her to get out and not be always comparing herself to Kate. In the end Charles only wants direct lineage to the crown to be the Royals i.e. William and George after himself. This would have been difficult for Harry and Meghan to live with.So they want to make their own life. Good on them. Meghan is famous now through the Royal Family.
