Dutch Working Visit to the German Federal States of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland: Day Two

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima continued today, Thursday October 11, the working visit to the German Federal States of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland.

In Trier, a city in the west of the Rhineland-Palatinate state, the Royal Couple paid a visit to the Porta Nigra, a large Roman city gate. Then they visited the High Cathedral of Saint Peter, a Roman Catholic cathedral and the Our Ladies’ Church. These three monuments are on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1986.

At the Rheinisches Landesmuseum the King and the Queen visited the exhibition “Karl Marx 1818-1883, Life, Work and Time” . The exhibition, organized to mark the 200th birthday of philosopher native of Trier, is dedicated to his life and his works. Afterwards the Royal Couple moved to the Saarland state.

Upon their arrival the King and the Queen were officially welcomed by Prime Minister Tobias Hans and his wife Tanja at the Saarbrücken Castle in Saarbrücken, the capital of the state. The Prime Minister offered a lunch.

In the afternoon the Royal Couple went to the Saarbrücken University Campus to attend a seminar. The seminar, titled “Secure Digital Industry”, was focused on digital developments in the manufacturing industry and it was also discussed a cooperation between Dutch and German in the field of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security , Smart Industry and Labor 4.0.

Then the King and the Queen visited the Bürger-Energie-Genossenschaft Köllertal eG, a cooperative founded in 2015 that finance the realization of renewable energy projects through the acquisition of cooperative shares.

In the evening took place a dinner at the Schloss Saareck in Mettlach.
