Today, Tuesday July 3, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde paid a visit to the cultural festival “Antwerp Baroque 2018. Rubens inspires” held at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp.

The festival, organized in collaboration between the city of Antwerp and Tourism Flanders, aims to pay tribute to the Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens and his baroque cultural legacy.

During the visit at the Museum the Queen toured three exhibitions accompanied by Marieke van Bommel, director of the Museum. The first one was “Sanguine / Blood Red”, where baroque masterpieces are exposed along with works of contemporary artists; the other exhibition was “The master lives” that shows Rubens’ restored self-portrait and some exceptional masterpieces of the Flemish artist; the third and last exhibition was “Michaelina. The leading lady of the baroque” that shows the first retrospective of the works of Michaelina Wautier, a painter of South Netherlands who became famous during a time when female artists were rare.
