Like every year, members of the Dutch Royal Family took part in the National Volunteer Day, NL DOET, on March 9 and 10.

On Friday, Princess Beatrix along with Prince Bernhard and his wife, Princess Annette, volunteered in the children’s day center “Onder één Dak” in Amersfoort, in the province of Utrecht. The center hosts young people between the ages of 4 and 18 with intellectual disability to deal with daily activities.

Princess Beatrix and Princess Annette, together with some young volunteers, helped to create learning and play materials and were also involved in gardening activities. Prince Bernhard took care of cleaning the garden.

The following day, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima helped in a nursing home in Pijnacker, in the province of South Holland. The Royal Couple baked and served pancakes for breakfast to the elderly people who are living in the complex. The King and the Queen also played some old Dutch games with the seniors.

Prince Pieter-Christiaan, as vice-president of the Dutch Red Cross, and his daughter Emma, volunteered at a first aid course given at the headquarters of the Red Cross in The Hague. The Prince and his daughter helped the residents of the Dr. Schroeder van der Kolk Foundation, a center that takes care of homeless and along with some volunteers, they prepared and served lunch.

Around 375,000 volunteers participated in the National Volunteer Day. NL DOET is organized by The Oranje Fund, with King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima as patrons.
