Ahead of the upcoming Money Week 2018, Queen Mathilde paid a visit today, Friday March 9, to the Support Center for Debt Mediation in Molenbeek, a municipality in the Brussels-Capital Region.

The Support Center for Debt Mediation is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 that aims to “provide assistance to services and debt mediators who assist people in financial difficulty or in situations of financial need or poverty, and more generally to defend the interests of these people”.

During her visit the Queen attended a roundtable discussion with representatives of Wikifin.be, the financial education program of the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA), that supervises the Belgian financial sector. The focus of their discussion was the prevention of debt burden for young people up to the age of 25.

Afterwards Queen Mathilde was informed about the launch of a new educational board game supported by Wikifin.be, “Just’in Budget”. The game will be used in more than 3,500 classes to provide financial education in the classroom in a playful manner.

Money Week is an initiative organized by Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) and Wikifin that aims to promote financial education with the help of various activities. It will start from March 12 and will last until March 18.
