On September 5th each year, Denmark holds an official flag day to commemorate the service of their military and civil defence forces in foreign conflicts since 1948. The day was first held in 2009.

Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were present at the main ceremony in Copenhagen, held at the Kastellet, where they laid a wreath at the Monument for Denmark’s International Effort since 1948. The couple later attended a service at the Holmens Kirke, before a military parade at Thorvaldsens Plads.

Earlier in the day, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie attended a wreath-laying ceremony at Skive Kaserne followed by a service at Skive Kirke.
