He may only be celebrating his 49th birthday today, but Crown Prince Frederik is already looking toward 2018, when he will turn a milestone 50 years old.

In a video realised today by the Danish Royal Court, Frederik announced the first of his birthday festivities, a Royal Run in the country’s five largest cities, open to members of the public with the aim to “bring joy, well-being and energy” associated with physical activity to the participants.

“When I turn 50 year olds, I will celebrate the day with a race where all of Denmark can join…A run must be a race aimed at the experience runners, but equally to those who tie their running shoes for the first time and everyone is welcome regardless of age,” Crown Prince Frederik said in the video, which he uses to ask Danes “will you join?”

On May 21, 2018 the Prince will be running one mile in Aalborg, Aarhus, Esbjerg and Odense before heading to the capital, Copenhagen, for a ten kilometre run to Frederiksberg.
