There were two royal Sofias present at the Dementia Forum X international conference at the Bernadotte Library in Stockholm on Thursday: Queen Sofia of Spain and Princess Sofia of Sweden. The Queen of Sweden was also present.

The trio participated in the forum, first held in 2015, which was attended by 120 individuals from around the globe who have an interest in dementia care and research and have the ability to make changes for sufferers. During the conference, the attendees discussed what research and improvements have been made since the 2015 conference, with speakers highlighting the “importance of gathering different sectors and interest groups to discuss new ideas to succeed in achieving success in the field of dementia.”

Queen Silvia, who founded Silviahemmet in 1996 to “improving the quality of life for persons affected by dementia and their families”, gave a speech in which she spoke about the new SilviaBo project that Silviahemmet has implemented this month to provide dementia sufferers adapted housing. In the afternoon, the conference attendees were given a tour of the SilviaBo apartments.

The Spanish Queen has, like Queen Silvia, worked for many years to improve the lives of dementia sufferers through her own foundation, Fundación Reina Sofía.
