Prince Albert II of Monaco has called the attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus “simply despicable and horrible” when speaking to RTL this evening hours after the incident. Three explosions went off near the football team’s bus as it made its way to the stadium in Dortmund, Germany for their Champions League quarterfinal leg against AS Monaco.

“We got the news from the Dortmund players in little bits, and then we heard there was an injured player…that the other players were safe and that our players were safe. Sport must not be taken hostage by madmen,” the Prince said of the aftermath of the incident, which saw him kept inside a hotel as a security precaution.

One player was injured in the incident, and was taken to hospital for surgery on his hand.

The match was postponed until Wednesday evening. It has not been confirmed whether Prince Albert will attend the match as originally planned.
