Swedish Royals Honour Terror Attack Victims
An official ceremony in the Stockholm City Hall Park was held at noon today honouring the four victims of Friday’s terror attack in the city. The ceremony was attended by King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, the Crown Princess Couple, and Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia.
The Royal Family joined the crowd in one minute’s silence as the clock hit midday, before the Swedish Military Band played Segnale Solenne. Prime Minister Stefan Löfven delivered a speech during the ceremony.
Four people (two Swedes, one Briton and one Belgian) were killed when a truck was driven down the Drottninggatan pedestrian mall mid-afternoon Friday.
King Carl Gustaf, who was on an official visit to Brazil at the time of the attack and returned immediately, addressed the media on Saturday outside the Royal Palace, praising the resilience of his people and their willingness to assist the wounded in the immediate aftermath, and said that “Sweden is, has long been, and will continue to be a safe and peaceful country”.
