With today’s confirmation King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians have accepted the invitation to pay a state visit to Denmark next month, the list of upcoming state visits across Europe has grown again. So that none get missed in the royal watching calendar, we’ve gathered all the necessary information below.
State Visit from Canada to Sweden
The Governor-General of Canada, David Johnston, will be arriving in Sweden next week to kick-off ‘state visit season’. He will be accompanied by his wife Sharon. The visitors will have engagements in Stockholm, Lund, Malmö and Gothenburg.
State Visit from Argentina to Spain
On the first of two visits to Europe, President Mauricio Macri of Argentina will pay a state visit to the Kingdom of Spain between February 21 and 24.
State Visit from Iceland to Norway
Following his state visit to Denmark last month, the President of Iceland Guðni Thorlacius Jóhannesson, will now also visit Norway between March 21 and 23. This is the first state visit from Iceland to Norway since 1997.
State Visit from Belgium to Denmark
The King and Queen of the Belgians will visit the Kingdom of Denmark on the invitation of Queen Margrethe II between March 28 and 30. The Danish Royal Court has said the purpose of the visit is to “strengthen the already strong bonds” between the two countries. Expect to see a number of tiaras at the first evening’s banquet.
State Visit from Argentina to The Netherlands
President Macri will return to Europe at the end of March on the invitation of the Dutch Foreign Minister for a state visit to The Netherlands.
State Visit from the United States to the United Kingdom
The much-discussed and controversial state visit of the new American President, Donald Trump, to the United Kingdom is believed to be taking place in the northern summer. Queen Elizabeth II will host President Trump. British Prime Minister Theresa May has confirmed the visit will not be cancelled despite protests against it.
