On the fortieth anniversary of her mother’s death, Princess Haya of Jordan, Sheika of Dubai announced a donation of 28million Jordanian Dinars ($USD39.5million) to the Tkiyet Um Ali, a charity whose aim is to end hunger and poverty in Jordan.

“There is no more fitting way to celebrate their lives and continue their legacies by doing something they would have done themselves,” the Princess said in a statement, referencing both her parents – Queen Alia Al Hussein of Jordan, who died on February 9, 1977, and King Hussein Bin Talal of Jordan, who died on February 7, 1999.

The donation is made in the name of Princess Haya and her two children, Sheikha Al Jalila and Sheikh Zayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Tkiyet Um Ali was founded by Princess Haya in 2003 based on documents of Queen Alia’s from before her death that outlined the concept. The charity provides humanitarian food aid, hot meals and food parcels to the underprivileged in Jordan.
