Princess Beatrix Watches On As German President Receives Honorary Doctorate

Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands today accompanied President Joachim Gauck of Germany to the University of Maastricht, where the President was awarded an honorary doctorate.

The President was given the honorary doctorate due to his “tireless defence of freedom, democracy, and justice”.

It was also announced by the Dutch Royal Court that King Willem-Alexander awarded President Gauck with the Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Dutch Lion in recognition of his work fostering a positive relationship between Germany and the Netherlands.
