King Carl Gustaf Participates in Forest Day Conference

At Stockholm’s Grand Hôtel today, King Carl XVI Gustaf gave the opening speech at the annual Forest Day conference that is held to bring together forest owners, industry representatives and researches to discuss new technologies and innovations that can be used to develop the national forest program.

“A green crown on our globe” is how the King described the area of Sweden, Finland, Russia and Canada that hosts one third of the earth’s trees. He also spoke of the importance the forestry industry, which makes up “10% of the forest products traded on the world market”, has to the Swedish economy, and how it is also important to the wellbeing of the Swedish people who know the enjoyment of walks or skiing of in the forests.

The King was shown simulation glasses that places the wearer inside the cab of a forestry machine that is used to train new operators in the field.

Today’s conference is a part of a three-week event on the topic of forestry.
