On November 11, King Philippe of the Belgians attended the annual service at the Congress Column on Place du Congrès to mark Armistice Day and honour the Belgian victims of the First and Second World Wars, and military operations abroad since.

The King laid a wreath of flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which lies at the base of the Congress Column, as did members of the Belgian government, military divisions and veterans associations.

For the first time, the Association for the Memory of the Shoah also laid a wreath, the first Jewish organisation to partake in the ceremony on Armistice Day.
