A Royal Wedding in Serbia!
Today, 23 October 2016, Serbia witnessed a very rare Royal Wedding when His Royal Highness Prince Mihailo Karadjordjevic, a grandson of King Alexander I of Yugoslavia, married Miss Ljubica Ljubisavljevic. The Prince is the youngest son of the late Prince Tomislav of Yugoslavia and his second wife, Princess Linda.
Amidst the enchanting grandeur of the Church of Saint George in Oplenac, 300 guests witnessed the happy couple take their vows. Miss Ljubisavljevic, who is now Princess Ljubica, wore a magnificent gown of lace, overlaying a diaphanous tulle skirt. Completing the ensemble the bride wore a long, lace-edged veil. Her new husband looked dashing in a black morning-coat, grey waistcoat and midnight-blue cravat.
The religious ceremony was conducted by His Grace Bishop Irinej of the Eastern Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church in America, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje and Father Petar Ludic who is the Dean of the Congregational Church in Belgrade.
Serbian wedding customs were, of-course, adhered to with traditional marriage rites and music. However, some “innovation” was added by way of a cello concert played by the winners of a National Contest.
As well as family and friends in attendance, other notable guests included the Speaker of the National Parliament of Serbia, Maja Gojkovic, the Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Saracenic and the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Serbia.
Afterwards, a reception for the happy couple was given by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Alexander and Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia at the White Palace. During the reception, Crown Prince Alexander gave a heartfelt speech in which he welcomed the new Princess into the family and offered both the bride and groom, “good fortune, health and family blessings”
For the reception, Princess Ljubica changed into an elegant and very simple gown of organza with belt detailing. An exquisite seven-tiered wedding cake, embellished with intricate flower detail awaited the newlyweds and as they cut the cake, there could be no doubt how happy they are on their magical day.
