Felipe and Letizia Enjoy A Day in Los Oscos As Part of the Princess of Asturias Awards

The King and Queen of Spain have spent the day in the region of Los Oscos, a series of councils in the western portion of Asturias, which has be declared the 2016 Princess of Asturias Awards’ ‘Exemplary Town of Asturias’.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia stopped in the towns of San Martin de Oscos, Villanueva de Oscos and  Santa Eulalia; where they were shown a number of different local sites of cultural importance. The couple unveiled commemorative plaques in each of the three towns, inspected an exhibition of children’s art work and were give demonstrations of traditional loom work.

The ‘Exemplary Town of Asturias’ award is given to the Asturian town that has been determined to be the best in ‘defence and conservation of the natural environment, historical heritage and culture, or in carrying out community works of outstanding solidarity’.
