The Prince of Wales has been named ‘Londoner of the Decade’ by The Express Standard this evening. The achievement award was given at the newspaper’s Progress 1000 Awards at the Science Museum.

“I have to confess I am not entirely sure whether to be pleased or alarmed.  Perhaps I am losing my touch when such eminent newspapers start giving me achievement awards!” the Prince joked as he began his acceptance speech at the event, saying he was “touched” to receive it.

The achievement was given to Prince Charles due to his years-long commitment to young people through The Prince’s Trust and the built environment through The Prince’s Foundation for Building Community.

Charles also spoke of his work in both fields, saying many times over the years people thought his ideas were odd, or “mad”, but he persevered because he felt the matters were too important to society to give up.
