Duchess’s Best Friend: Camilla Visits Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

A bulldog named Winston almost stole the show during the Duchess of Cornwall’s visit to the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home today, as he took a shining to the royal visitor’s outfit – by hiding his head underneath her skirts!

Camilla – a well-known dog lover – was unfazed by Winston’s antics, laughing and giving the pup a pat as she chucked, “Typical dog, head up the skirt.”

The Duchess was visiting the charity, which has operated since 1860 and helps to care for and rehome thousands of dogs and cats each year, to open their new Veterinary Hospital and Centre of Excellence. The new facilities will allow veterinarians to assist even more animals per week.

As she toured the new hospital, Camilla met a number of dogs who need new homes – and had to stop herself from “popping one in my bag” (she already has two Jack Russells – Bluebell and Beth – that were adopted a few years back from Battersea). She did encourage others to come and adopt a pet though: “they are the best companions in the world.”
