Belgian Monarchs Receive the Duke and Duchess of Wellington

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde have received two special guests at the Royal Palace of Laeken, welcoming the Duke and Duchess of Wellington to their home.

The reason for the visit is unknown, though the Duke’s heritage links him to Belgium: the Dukes of Wellington have also held the title ‘Prince of Waterloo’ since 1815, when the 1st Duke defeated Napoleon. The 9th Duke also owns an estate in the country that was given at the same time.
