The Thai Royal Court announced last night that King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who has spent most of the several years in hospital, has been treated for hydrocephalus, a condition caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid that results in the enlargement of the brain cavities.

“It was detected that his facial muscles had irregular movements and the doctor conducted a computer x-ray and found there was an irregular surplus of fluid in the backbone and brain,” the Court’s statement read, specifying the condition was treated with an adjustment of a tube placed in the King’s abdomen and was satisfactory.

88-year-old King Bhumibol’s health has been in a decline for several years, leaving much nervousness amongst the Thai public about what would happen once the King has passed away.
